Daniel Sacchero (left), Jim Adams (centre) and Mark Stecher (right)Two prominent Victorian wireless networking specialists, DyCom Wireless and JAS Broadband, have merged their operations to deliver greater choice for customers and a stronger market presence.

With many customers in the Victorian government and corporate sectors, DyCom Wireless has been the wireless networking division of 21-year-old systems integrator DyCom Business Systems Pty Ltd while JAS Broadband has provided microwave radio/wireless solutions since 2002.

JAS Broadband (Aust) Pty Ltd is trading as DyCom Wireless Solutions. As well as combining staff, the merged business is operating from DyCom’s Preston premises, sharing administration, payroll and other corporate services with DyCom Business Systems.

DyCom has technology partnerships with global wireless providers including Motorola, Lightpointe, RAD, DragonWave and Ruckus Wireless. JAS Broadband adds its long-established relationships with suppliers including Ceragon Networks, Microwave Networks Inc and Israel-based MRV.

The combined operation has a strong customer presence in Victorian market segments including health care, education, local government, utilities and corporate organisations.

Dycom Wireless Solutions Manager Daniel Sacchero said this combination created a very competitive business in the communications sector. “The merger takes advantage of the two companies’ deep experience with wireless solutions and their specific areas of expertise,” he said.

Paul Woods (left) and Jonathan Martin, EBSAward-winning Arrow business partner, Evolution Business Systems (EBS) has launched a same-day support service in Adelaide for companies using the Arrow Financials accounting software program.

The company, which has its national support centre in Melbourne, is already providing Arrow Financials support for customers in both Australia and New Zealand.

Evolution, established by managing director Paul Woods in 2001, has won a series of awards for its performance, including being four-time recipient of Arrow’s Business Partner of the Year accolade.

The company, with a staff of 10, will initially support Adelaide customers using its national help desk service as well as sending Mr. Woods, and technical director Jonathan Martin, to SA for several days each month. Their aim is to establish a critical mass of business that will enable them to employ a locally-based Arrow consultant by the middle of this year.

Small business technology specialist Dean Calvert says that international calls to abandon Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser due to security concerns may actually expose computers to greater dangers.

“I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and settle down rather than join the hysteric horde,” said Calvert, the managing director of Adelaide-based network services firm Calvert Technologies.

“The sky is not falling down! Abandoning the Internet Explorer browser because of a high-profile security breach will just invite other, albeit different, security threats. Following some simple procedures can dramatically reduce the risk of viruses and other invasive software getting in your PC.”

Last week, Google's corporate network was hacked due to a vulnerability in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser, which was being used by Google employees. Since then, there has been an international chorus of calls for users to abandon using the Internet Explorer browser.
