National broadband trailblazer Internode has extended the coverage of its Internode Business Connect (IBC) private Internet Protocol networks across the Tasman Sea for clients with offices in New Zealand.
IBC provides Internode customers with a private IP network that connects businesses with offices throughout Australia – and now New Zealand – as if they were on a purely internal network. Benefits of IBC include dedicated interoffice capacity of the network links, greater application awareness and guaranteed security by not exposing IBC-contained data to the public Internet. Internode’s IBC launch in New Zealand adds extra competitive pressure to the tightly-held trans-Tasman market for private corporate networks, which is dominated by Telstra and AAPT. Internode product manager Phil Dempster said the extension of IBC was to meet the needs of many corporate customers with branch offices in New Zealand. “This gives them one network that spans two countries,” he said. “The availability of Internode Business Connect throughout New Zealand allows customers to integrate these sites into their IBC wide area networks in Australia.”
From today, Internode is offering MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) private IP ADSL services in New Zealand with dedicated backhaul to Sydney from an Internode Point of Presence in Auckland. Internode has partnered with one of New Zealand’s largest broadband providers, Orcon, which provides national ADSL services, primarily delivered via Telecom New Zealand DSLAMs. The IBC ADSL New Zealand service will offer speeds as fast as 16 megabits per second downstream and 1 Mb/s upstream. Internode is a first tier IP carrier committed to using broadband technology to redefine the national telecommunications environment. The Australian-owned company is a trailblazer that delivers broadband services to individuals and businesses throughout Australia.
