Press releases Internode Internode harnesses IT entrepreneur as its new CIO
Internode harnesses IT entrepreneur as its new CIO
Friday, 22 January 2010 00:00

Internode CIO Frank FalcoNational broadband company Internode has recruited successful technology entrepreneur Frank Falco to the role of Chief Information Officer, after he spent 18 months on the Board of the fast-growing company.

Mr Falco brings a wealth of experience from the Internet technology sector. Previously he was General Manager of Business Development at financial software specialist Finantix in Sydney, Operations Manager at search engine optimisation firm YourAmigo and founding CEO of online application development company Recall Design, which accounting software firm MYOB bought a majority stake in.

As Internode’s Chief Information Officer (CIO), Mr Falco’s role involves planning the evolution and coordinating the integration of Internode’s core technology to support its fast-growing business. Since 2005, Internode has grown from less than 100 employees to more than 450. In 2009, the company had more than 180,000 broadband customers, from individuals to large corporations, throughout Australia.

Frank Falco said he accepted the role to experience the “exciting opportunities” at Internode.  “We’ve come through a long period of strong growth, so we now have the opportunity to take our systems, customer support and technology to the next level,” he said.

“We do a good job now, despite some legacy systems from the fast-growth phase, so my role is to build and refine that solid infrastructure base to deliver both better customer service and introduce innovative new services. As the industry matures, delivering value-added services is central to Internode’s success. We are a technology-driven company rather than a company supported by technology.

“Broadband has gone from being just a service to a platform that delivers a range of services such as Voice over IP, private IP networks and IPTV. Enhanced telephony services present a big opportunity, both for our residential and business customers.

“We are always working on new products at Internode. 2010 is an exciting year and we will deliver a lot of new things this year as we head towards the National Broadband Network.”

Mr Falco said his entrepreneurial experience was a help rather than a hindrance in his new job. “At Internode, being an employee doesn’t restrict you from applying your entrepreneurial skills,” he said.

“Being part of the management team utilises my entrepreneurial experience. I have a terrific opportunity to leverage a great brand, great people and excellent infrastructure to do exciting things in a very collaborative environment.”

Internode Chief Executive Officer Patrick Tapper said Frank Falco added a lot of value to the company. ‘We are constantly working on how to maintain the energy and enthusiasm of a start-up company despite becoming a much larger enterprise,” he said.

“Frank’s insight into technology and hands-on understanding of running rapidly growing businesses qualify him uniquely for the CIO role and will help to keep Internode innovating like a young company.”
