National broadband company Internode last week won a prestigious Environmental Responsibility Award 2009 Communications Alliance and CommsDay Awards in Sydney.
Internode’s 2009 win of the Environmental Responsibility Award follows last year’s accolade when managing director Simon Hackett as named the Telecommunications Ambassador for 2008. During the past two years, Internode has taken major steps to minimise its impact on the environment. Despite its electricity costs rising three-fold during the past four years, Internode has stepped up to accept its obligations as a responsible corporate citizen by ensuring its environmental effects are mitigated fully. |

Broadband company Internode has invested $500,000 in a high resolution videoconferencing system that it expects to boost sales, cut costs and reduce the environmental impact of its national operations.
Internode is the first SA-based company to purchase the Cisco TelePresence system, which creates a live, face-to-face communication experience over the network with high quality video and audio. Using five-year projections based on its 2007-08 activity, Internode estimates that its TelePresence suites will eliminate more than 150 tonnes of carbon emissions from its operations through reduced travel. That is equivalent to planting more than 12,000 trees. Internode is already using the TelePresence system to connect its Sydney and Adelaide offices. Its new Melbourne office will come online later this year after the fitout is complete. As well as internal meetings, Internode is using the system to communicate with business partners, vendors and customers. Internode CEO Patrick Tapper said the TelePresence suites had already contributed to greater productivity. “We expect this facility will help us to win new business as well as do an even better job for our existing customers,” he said. |

National broadband company Internode today launches its first standalone analgue telephone service, NodeLine, which can carve more than 25 per cent from your monthly telephone charges.
Aimed at residential customers, NodeLine is a standard telephone service with competitive call rates that can save customers more than $40 a month based on typical calling patterns (see below). NodeLine is an Internode repackaging of a Telstra analogue phone service, which means it is available virtually anywhere in Australia. Internode Product Manager Jim Kellett said NodeLine offered highly competitive prices for calls to national and mobile numbers. “Long distance calls are billed as 15 cents per minute while calls to mobile phones are billed at 29 cents per minute, both with no flagfall,” he said. |

National broadband trailblazer Internode today launches Internode Easy Broadband, a jargon-free plan designed for customers who want the best-value Internet access they can get for $49.95.
In a game-changing move, Internode is offering consumers the widely available, easy-to-choose plan with a huge 30-gigabyte (GB) data quota and other complicated decisions removed from the equation. Internode Easy Broadband is a radically different broadband plan to Internode’s traditional plan table which offers a wide – but sometimes confusing – array of prices, speeds, DSLAM network types, DSLAM coverage tables and data quotas. Internode managing director Simon Hackett said Internode Easy Broadband was totally different to anything else his company had offered. “It’s to solve the problem of decision paralysis,” he said. |

Broadband trailblazer Internode today becomes the first ISP to use the new Basslink fibre-optic cable service, which boosts capacity and cuts the cost of transferring data to and from Tasmania.
As well as virtually halving the data backhaul cost across Bass Strait, the Basslink service increases Internode’s data capacity to Tasmania by more than 150 per cent. It also provides greater certainty of uninterrupted services for Tasmanian customers by creating an additional redundant data path. The Basslink service launch follows Internode’s announcement that its $10 million national network expansion will deliver a 500 per cent increase to its direct presence in Tasmania. This accelerated investment program will see Internode install its own DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) equipment at an additional 10 telephone exchanges in Tasmania – five times more than Internode’s current Tasmanian footprint of two exchanges. Internode managing director Simon Hackett said Basslink’s extra capacity and lower prices would allow Internode to compete more aggressively for business in Tasmania. “As well as virtually halving the cost of data backhaul across Bass Strait, Basslink allows us to exploit economies of scale,” he said. |
