Passionate electric car advocate Simon Hackett has smashed the world distance record for an electric vehicle by driving his Tesla Roadster more than 500km in the inaugural Global Green Challenge.
On the fourth day of his 3000km journey from Darwin to Adelaide, Simon, with co-driver Emilis Prelgauskas, drove the fully electric sports car for 501km (311 miles) on a single charge. Its journey went from Alice Springs in the centre of Australia to south of Marla, across the South Australian border. This achievement smashes the world electric vehicle (EV) distance record by more than 110km. The previous world distance record for an electric vehicle was set in April by another Roadster, which was the only vehicle to complete the entire, 388km (241-mile) Rallye Monte Carlo d'Energies Alternatives. Simon Hackett, managing director of Australian national broadband company Internode, owns the only Tesla Roadster in Australia. The $160,000 Roadster is the world’s only fully electric production sports car, delivering supercar performance of 0-100km per hour in 3.9 seconds. |

National broadband innovator Internode is taking its sponsorship of this week’s Global Green Challenge seriously by putting founder and managing director Simon Hackett on the road for the 3000km odyssey.
Internode is a major partner of the Global Green Challenge event for alternative energy vehicles, a week-long marathon road run from Darwin to Adelaide, starting this Saturday, October 24. Simon is already in Darwin with a support team from Internode preparing to take part in the Global Green Challenge with his $160,000 Tesla Roadster, the world’s only fully electric production sports car. With supercar performance of 0-100km per hour in 3.9 seconds, the Tesla has a driving range of nearly 400km on a full charge of the 6831 lithium ion cells that can be recharged in as little as three hours. When Simon steers his Tesla out of Darwin at noon this Saturday, he’s on a mission to prove that electric cars are the future of motoring. “I’m a fan of electric vehicles from way back in the mid 80s and so I want to get people to see the Tesla to know that electric vehicles are for real,” he said. |

National broadband trailblazer Internode today boosts data quotas and lowers plan costs as it passes on to customers the benefits of the PIPE PPC-1 fibre-optic link, which goes live this Thursday.
PPC-1, an undersea cable that links Sydney with the western Pacific island of Guam, delivers a significant increase in Australia’s international data interconnection, thereby reducing data transfer costs. From Guam, Internode uses other cable systems to link through to the US and beyond. Internode has reshaped and simplified its broadband plan table by launching more than 40 new plans with boosted data quotas for established price points and culling more than 80 redundant plans from its line-up. Internode today provides customers using its most popular plan, Internode Easy Broadband, with an automatic 66 per cent data quota upgrade – an increase from 30 gigabytes (GB) to 50 GB per month – effective from their next plan rollover date. |

National broadband company Internode has slashed $50 from the price of its range of 3G modems and launched an antenna to boost reception of its NodeMobile Data wireless broadband service.
Although Internode offers free hardware to customers who sign a two-year contract for NodeMobile Data, it also provides the option to purchase competitively-priced 3G modems with no long-term commitment. From Tuesday, September 29, Internode will drop the price of its residential E160E 3G modem from $149 to just $99. This device is available for free on a 24-month 3G contract. Internode will also cut the cost for the professional E1762 HSDPA/HSUPA modems from $199 to just $149. These devices are available for just $50 on a 24-month 3G contract. Following extensive testing, Internode has also started offering a $29.95 Panorama 3G antenna to enhance signal reception for customers who use NodeMobile Data in areas of low signal strength. Another recent enhancement for NodeMobile is the launch of static IP services on 3G. |

National broadband trailblazer Internode this week became the first customer to use PIPE Networks’ new PPC-1 fibre-optic cable, running tests several weeks ahead of the trans-Pacific link’s official launch.
After receiving the PPC-1 circuit yesterday, Internode, a foundation customer of Australia’s latest international fibre-optic link, successfully conducted end-to-end packet flow tests between Australia and the US. PIPE Pacific Cable (PPC-1) is a 6900km fibre optic cable that links Sydney with the western Pacific island of Guam, a US territory with high bandwidth links to the continental United States. “PPC-1 project has been an extraordinary journey ‘full of firsts’, however we are delighted that this has been the ‘first’ that we are able to share with one of our foundation customers, Internode,” said Bevan Slattery, CEO of PIPE Networks Ltd. Internode managing director Simon Hackett said PPC-1 had passed its first tests with flying colours. “PPC-1 has successfully demonstrated its performance by allowing Internode to send Internet Protocol (IP) packets end to end between Sydney and the US via Guam,” he said. |
