National broadband trailblazer Internode has successfully connected its first customer in Tasmania to the National Broadband Network (NBN), a pioneering start for the vision of Australia’s broadband future.
IT technician Robert Pettman, who lives at the suburb of Midway Point, overlooking Hobart airport, saw the lights come alive on his fibre modem about 5pm yesterday, in a service delivered by Internode via NBN Tasmania, in an historic first step towards the National Broadband Network rollout. “It’s awesome,” said Mr Pettman, who works as a Senior IT Customer Support Officer in Hobart. “It’s a major speed increase on what I had before, which was a 1.5 megabit per second ADSL service. Since it went live about 5pm, I’ve done speed tests and have seen a few peaks of 80 megabits per second, although it mostly hovers around 50Mb/s, which is what I ordered. |

National broadband trailblazer Internode has established a dedicated Point of Presence (POP) in London, with links from the UK to the US and to Singapore that encircle the planet with its network.
With more than 15.5 gigabits per second of international data capacity linking Australia to the Internet globally, Internode now maintains overseas points of presence in San Jose, Los Angeles and Ashburn in the US, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Auckland as well as the new POP in London. The recent network expansion had also established a direct link between Singapore and the new London POP as well as new links from London to Internode POPs in the United States. Internode CEO Patrick Tapper said the Asia-Europe link was a big one. “It means we can now reach anywhere in our network, both ways, around the world,” he said. |

In a dual move, national broadband company Internode has laid out for the welcome mat for Apple iPad users who want to access its award-winning broadband services. Firstly, Internode has launched microSIM cards that allow iPads to access its competitively priced NodeMobile Data 3G services, which cost from $14.95 for a 500 megabyte per month plan. Concurrently, Internode has slashed $50 from the cost of its MiFi mobile hotspot device, providing a low-cost way for up to five iPad users to access the Web with a single 3G service. The MiFi now costs $249 bundled with a 24-month NodeMobile Data service and $349 with no contract. |

Australian broadband innovator Internode has announced a major overhaul of its Business ADSL broadband plans with a compelling combination of boosted data quotas and reduced prices.
As well as cutting $30 from the cost of an entry-level Business ADSL2+ service to just $59, Internode has introduced its first truly Unlimited quota Business ADSL2+ plans, starting from $299. These prices include a $10 discount offered when these plans are bundled with a NodeLine Business phone service. In this radical revision of its Business plans, Internode now offers just three tiers of Business ADSL services: Business-Extreme and Business-NakedExtreme plans, running at ADSL2+ Annex M speeds as fast as 24 megabits per second (Mb/s); and Business-Fast plans, with high speed ADSL1/ADSL2+ available nationwide. All Business ADSL plans running at 1.5 Mb/s or slower have been ‘grandfathered’, which means they are maintained for existing customers but are no longer offered for sale. Internode Business ADSL plans offer broadband services that are designed specifically to meet the needs of commercial and corporate organisations. Features include priority technical support, static IP addresses, optional subnets, download-only quotas and half-cent per megabyte excess charges. Internode has also introduced a maximum excess charge of $299 per month across the range. Internode product manager Jim Kellett said the standout feature of the Business plan overhaul was providing larger data quotas for less money. “Business ADSL plans haven't received as much attention in recent plan upgrades, so we decided it was time for an extreme makeover!” he said. |

National broadband trailblazer Internode has unveiled breakthrough Fibre to the Home (FTTH) prices for its NBN Stage One pilot program in Tasmania, with a 25 megabit per second plan costing just $29.95.
Internode’s aggressive entry-level fibre price is $10 less than its cheapest standalone ADSL broadband plans – the ADSL Standard or Extreme ADSL2+ plans – which each cost $39.95 a month. Internode has released 15 FTTH plans, which are available only to people living in the three areas serviced by the NBN Stage One pilot program, run by NBN Tasmania. Prices for Internode FTTH plans in the Tasmanian pilot – published at www.internode.on.net/nbn – will be charged monthly until June 30, 2011, when official NBN wholesale pricing is expected to be available. Internode’s $29.95 entry-level plan, with a 15 gigabyte (GB) data quota, has a 25 Mb/s downstream speed and 2 Mb/s upstream. Its 50 Mb/s plans cost from $39.95 while 100 Mb/s plans start at $59.95. There are no long term contracts or early termination charges on any of the plans. For a limited time, Internode has further sweetened the deal by offering free fibre setup for customers in the northern Tasmanian towns of Smithton and Scottsdale and the Hobart suburb of Midway Point. |
