Internode adds 240 exchanges to Easy Broadband ADSL2+ service
Tuesday, 01 May 2012 10:00

Internode managing director Simon HackettDelivering the latest benefit of joining forces with iiNet, Internode today starts offering its best-selling Easy Broadband ADSL2+ services from an extra 240 telephone exchanges throughout Australia.

Internode Easy Broadband is the company’s most popular ADSL2+ broadband service for residential customers, delivered direct from its own DSLAM network. DSLAMs (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers) are devices that allow the delivery of ADSL services over copper telephone lines.

During today, Internode will expand its Easy Broadband services coverage to include telephone exchanges that contain iiNet DSLAM equipment. This equipment is physically identical to existing Internode DSLAMs, delivering the same features and performance to customers in all Easy Broadband service locations. This more than doubles the number of exchanges that can deliver Internode Easy Broadband services from 208 to 450.

As well as greater reach in iiNet’s home state of WA, the extra DSLAMs will significantly extend the availability of Internode Easy Broadband in the suburbs of Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane. The expanded coverage will be available for new signups by close of business on Tuesday, May 1.

Internode managing director Simon Hackett said the DSLAM integration was great for Internode’s customers. “This delivers a massive coverage expansion of Easy Broadband ADSL2+ services for all new customers by making our flagship broadband plus dial-tone voice service available from an extra 240 exchanges,” he said.

Internode turns on NBN Wireless in Armidale
Monday, 02 April 2012 00:00

Jim KellettInternode today starts selling NBN Fixed Wireless broadband services to people who live or work on the periphery of Armidale in northern NSW.

Internode’s NBN Fixed Wireless service offers the same plans as its NBN Bronze fibre service, running at 12/1 Mbps with data quotas ranging from 30 GB to 1 TB. For plan and price details, visit http://www.internode.on.net/nbn/wireless/.

The NBN Fixed Wireless service, which needs a directional external antenna installed at the premises, is designed to give more consistent broadband performance than mobile broadband. Using advanced wireless technology commonly referred to as LTE, NBN Fixed Wireless aims to provide broadband coverage for people living or working in regional areas that will not receive fibre-based NBN services.

Once the NBN Fixed Wireless service is completed nationally by 2015, it will provide broadband coverage for four per cent of the population – about 500,000 premises. A searchable NBN rollout map, including NBN Fixed Wireless coverage, is available at http://www.nbnco.com.au/rollout/rollout-map.html

From today, Internode is selling services that use the first NBN Fixed Wireless towers near Armidale, which covers a total of about 770 premises.

The day love came to the shoot-em-up online world
Thursday, 29 March 2012 00:00

Taryn Hicks and Derek AdamsWhen Internode web mistress Taryn Hicks proposed a trade to her boyfriend during an online game of Team Fortress 2, Derek Adams had no idea she was asking for the rest of his life.

Taryn had decided to take advantage of “The Ladies Privilege” on February 29 – the extra day in this leap year – when tradition allows marriage-minded women to pop the question to their men.

Being a 21-century kinda gal, Taryn, whose day job involves maintaining the Internode website, wanted to make her proposal memorable for Derek, who works on a help desk for global computer firm HP. So she enlisted the aid of another global tech company, US-based Valve Corporation, which develops Team Fortress 2 (TF2), the online game that Derek can spend hours playing each night.
