Internode has revealed to customers the first major benefit of joining forces with iiNet by announcing its most popular broadband services will become available through 450 telephone exchanges nationally.
iiNet Limited (ASX: IIN) yesterday announced that it had completed the acquisition of Internode Pty Ltd and Agile Communications Pty Ltd, announced on December 22, 2011. The first customer-visible benefit of Internode becoming a full subsidiary of iiNet is that the company has added 242 telephone exchanges equipped with iiNet DSLAM equipment to the list of its own DSLAM-equipped exchanges. DSLAMs (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers) are devices that allow broadband providers such as Internode and iiNet to deliver ADSL-based broadband services over copper telephone lines. Once the DSLAM networks are integrated, this more than doubles the number of exchanges, from 208 to 450, through which Internode can deliver its most popular services, Internode Easy Broadband and Easy Naked. Internode managing director Simon Hackett said the DSLAM integration was the first “customer-visible benefit of iiNet and Internode joining forces”. “Blending our DSLAM coverage benefits customers of both Internode and iiNet,” he said. |

National broadband company Internode has introduced new Fibre to the Home plans at more than 20 real estate developments around Australia that align speeds, quotas and prices with its NBN services. Released this week, Internode’s new Fibre to the Home (FTTH) broadband plans increase the value available to customers at greenfield estates and introduce optional “add-on” Power Packs and Business Packs to better meet customer needs, especially for the business market. As well as offering fibreoptic-based services at all National Broadband Network (NBN) sites in Australia, Internode delivers Fibre to the Home services at real estate developments in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and SA, through partnerships with wholesale providers OptiComm and OPENetworks. Starting at $49.95 for a 12/1 Mbps plan with a 30GB data quota, Internode’s new FTTH plans apply the same naming conventions, speeds, data quotas and prices that Internode delivers to its NBN-connected customers. The following table outlines Internode’s new Fibre broadband plans. | Monthly Price & Quota | 30 GB | 300 GB | 600 GB | 1000 GB | | Bronze - 12/1 Mbps * | $49.95 | $69.95 | $89.95 | $139.95 | | Silver - 25/5 Mbps * | $54.95 | $74.95 | $94.95 | $144.95 | | Gold - 50/20 Mbps * | $64.95 | $84.95 | $104.95 | $154.95 | | Platinum - 100/40 Mbps * | $74.95 | $94.95 | $114.95 | $164.95 | | * These are the nominal Fibre broadband access port speeds and are not necessarily indicative of actual Internet data transfer speeds. Please note, the total minimum price for each Fibre to the Home broadband plan comprises the standard setup charge of $99 plus one month of Fibre broadband plan rental. | Internode product manager Jim Kellett said new Fibre to the Home plans simplified choice for customers. “The new plans are 'NBN-equivalent' in terms of speeds, quotas and prices,” he said. “As well as more competitive prices, we’ve launched the new 12/1 Mbps level speed for Fibre to the Home customers and are delivering faster upload speeds with the standard services. We’ve also introduced the optional Power Packs and Business Packs so customers can tailor their Fibre service to their particular needs. “The previous Fibre plans have been ‘grandfathered’, which means they remain operational for existing customers but are no longer available for purchase. Customers will not be automatically migrated to the new plans, but can select them at www.internode.on.net or by calling Internode on 13 NODE (13 6633).” Mr. Kellett added that Internode’s Fibre services at Point Cook and South Brisbane would remain at higher prices than the new plans because of the “uncompetitive” wholesale pricing offered by Telstra. Full details of Internode Fibre to the Home services are available at http://www.internode.on.net/ftth. National broadband company Internode this month became the first Australian broadband provider to make IPv6 (Internode Protocol version 6) available by default for all of its new customers. Internet Protocol (IP) addresses are the numerical addresses used to identify every device connected to the Internet. Although the impending depletion of IPv4 addresses has been recognised for years, the deployment of IPv6, its mature replacement protocol, has been limited to date. After commencing Australia’s first public IPv6 trial in November 2009, Internode has progressively deployed IPv6 throughout its operations and made it available for any interested customers. Since Tuesday, January 10, 2012, Internode has enabled dual stack support – allowing the concurrent operation of IPv4/IPv6 Internet protocols – for all new broadband services. Existing Internode customers can enable IPv6 at any time by visiting ‘My Internode’ on the Internode website and switching it on. Customers then only need an IPv6 capable router. Every Billion and the AVM FRITZ!Box broadband router sold by Internode is IPv6-ready. Internode has attracted international attention for its innovative approach to IPv6 deployment. Internode managing director Simon Hackett said Internode’s experience demonstrated that IPv6 was ready for prime time. “It’s time to jump in - the water’s fine,” he said. |
