Dr. Don PeruginiAustralian artificial intelligence specialist Intelligent Software Development has joined RPDE, a defence industry initiative that aims to use technology to boost Australia’s war-fighting capabilities.

The Rapid Prototyping, Development and Evaluation (RPDE) Program is a collaborative venture between the Australian Department of Defence and the industry that seeks to improve Defence’s war-fighting capability, particularly in relation to network-centric warfare.

Intelligent Software was invited RPDE to join the program as an Associate. Intelligent Software Managing Director Dr. Don Perugini accepted that invitation at a ceremony in Canberra last Thursday.

Dr. Perugini said Intelligent Software’s membership in RPDE would introduce the company’s cutting edge technology to the defence sector. “What makes it unique is the ability to model and analyse potential choices across an entire population, which has great value for defence,” he said.

Founded in 2006, Intelligent Software is an Adelaide-based company that uses state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technologies to deliver cost-effective customised software solutions and consulting. Its founders, Dr. Don Perugini and Dr. Michelle Perugini, come from defence and health backgrounds.

This defence induction for Intelligent Software builds on its success in the water industry, where the company’s SimulAIt simulation application is used to create virtual cities that model and test products, policies or infrastructure, in high impact areas such as water management and climate change.

About Intelligent Software Development

Intelligent Software Development Pty Ltd has drawn on expertise from the defence industry to use Artificial Intelligence technologies to create realistic virtual models of cities for strategic planning and forecasting purposes. As with the popular SimCity computer game, Intelligent Software’s AI approach models elements of a city, such as households and their demographic characteristics. This simulation can be used to assist with strategic planning and demand forecasting by running “what-if” scenarios and analysing the impact that proposed strategic decisions, infrastructure and policy will have on the population’s behaviour, including demand, spending and consumption.
