Leading network device manufacturer Billion has launched the BiPAC 7800NL, an ADSL2+ router that supports the new generation Internet Protocol, IPv6, for just $159. Once its latest firmware update* is installed, the Billion BiPAC 7800NL delivers future-proof functionality including the ability to recognise and manage both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) is the next generation Internet Protocol that offers a vast number of longer IP addresses to overcome the imminent exhaustion of new IP version 4 addresses, expected within the next two years. IPv6 is already being trialled by ISPs in Australia. Billion products are distributed exclusively in Australia through the PCRange reseller network. PCRange CEO Raaj Menon said the availability of affordable IPv6-ready ADSL2+ routers such as the Billion BiPAC 7800NL marked the real start of the rollout of IPv6. “ISPs such as Internode are already trialling IPv6, so we expect to see strong demand for these routers during the coming year,” he said. The Billion BiPAC 7800NL provides an affordable and well-configured ADSL2+ router that offers: - An integrated 802.11n Wireless Access Point to support wireless speeds up to 300Mbps
- Four-port Ethernet switch and Annex M-capable ADSL2+ performance
- Robust Firewall security to protect Internet access against hacker attacks
- Quality of Service to prioritise queues and traffic for applications such as music downloads, online gaming, video streaming and file sharing.
* The older version firmware for the Billion BiPAC 7800NL is 2.02a.RC1. The latest firmware release, which enables the 7800NL to support IPv6, is version 2.02a.
