Record Billion router sales surge into New Year PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Monday, 18 January 2010 00:00

Billion BiPAC 7404 VNPXBillion broadband routers are experiencing an unprecedented surge in sales due to the stronger Australian dollar, a string of award wins and the increasing discernment of second-time router customers.

Since October last year, Billion’s Australian distributor PCRange has experienced record sales every month, without any drop in demand during the typically quieter Christmas period.

The sales surge corresponds with the strengthening of the Australian dollar, which has led to lower prices across the product range, including the two most popular models, the Billion BiPAC 7404VPNX (RRP $395) and Billion BiPAC 7800N (RRP $265). Street prices for routers are often much lower.

PCRange Sales Manager for Billion, Chris Sa’aga, said the company had recorded its best-ever sales during the past four months. “It’s going pretty crazy at the moment,” he said.

“We attribute that to the price drop and the recovery that has started in the economy. We thought it would drop off a bit over Christmas, as it usually does, but it has just carried on.

Billion BiPAC 7800N“It’s interesting that our hottest-selling models are the more expensive units, the BiPAC 7404VNPX and the BiPAC 7800N. They’ve had good reviews and won a couple of awards, especially the VNPX, and they are well-configured for the future with Wireless N and Gigabit LAN.”

Billion broadband products are sold throughout Australia through a national network of technology distributor and computer resellers. The Billion sales surge has been spread evenly across the country.

The BiPAC 7404NVPX won the APC Magazine Editors Choice award in its October edition while PC User Magazine, in the same month, described it as: “..a router that ticks all the boxes” .

Mr. Sa’aga said he believed another reason for Billion’s strong appeal was that many customers were now buying replacement routers after having used lower-quality devices supplied by ISPs as part of a contract. “People are deciding not to cut corners with quality in their routers,” he said.

“Billion has a great reputation for reliability, which has become quite a factor in the brand’s appeal. With that reputation, people expect great technology, so Billion is at the forefront with Wireless N, gigabit and 3G router. These are the routers of choice after research and recommendation.”
