Billion doubles HomePlug speed to 500Mb/s for Xmas
Friday, 09 December 2011 00:00

Billion BiPAC P108 HomePlug kitNetworking specialist Billion has more than doubled the speed of its popular HomePlug Ethernet-over-power device to support Triple Play applications such as IPTV, VoIP and high-speed Internet access.

Billion’s BiPAC P108 HomePlug kit uses a building’s existing electrical cabling to create or extend a computer network to areas where wireless networks may not reach. The new BiPAC P108 HomePlug runs at 500Mb/s, more than twice the 200Mb/s speed of the previous HomePlug model.

Costing just $149, Billion’s BiPAC P108 HomePlug kit comprises two BiPAC 2075 Ethernet-over-power adapters. To create or extend a network, simply plug each adapter into any wall power socket in your premises and then plug your network devices into each HomePlug’s Ethernet port.

The higher speed performance of the BiPAC P108 HomePlug kit better supports Triple Play applications such as seamless high-definition media streaming, intense online gaming and “jitter-free” VoIP calling throughout your home. The BiPAC P108 also supports noise-immune data transmission over electrical wire, so there is no disruption to network traffic if family members turn on or off other electronic devices.

As well as support for Gigabit Ethernet, the BiPAC P108 HomePlug kit contains “green” power-saving features that automatically detect when network devices are powered down or disconnected, allowing the HomePlug adapter to drop automatically into Sleep mode.

Billion tops broadband survey for fifth year in a row
Thursday, 21 April 2011 00:00
For the fifth consecutive year, router manufacturer Billion has earned the accolade of Australia’s most popular broadband hardware by topping the Australian Broadband Survey 2011.

Held by tech-savvy site Whirlpool (www.whirlpool.net.au), the Australian Broadband Survey was completed by 23,513 broadband consumers during January 2011.

This year, Billion again topped the hardware table, with 23.9 per cent of respondents nominating it as their broadband modem brand. The next most popular brand attracted votes from only 13.6 per cent of respondents – a clear lead that Billion has maintained for a number of years.

Seven Billion routers were among the 16 models listed in the survey. The most popular Billion models were its best-selling Billion BiPAC 7800N, the Billion BiPAC 7404VNPX and Billion BiPAC 7401GPR3.

Again, more than 90 per cent of Billion users described themselves as satisfied or very satisfied with its performance. Full details of the Australian Broadband Survey are published at http://whirlpool.net.au/survey/2010/

Billion BiPAC 7800N wins CNET Best of 2010 award
Wednesday, 20 April 2011 00:00

Billion BiPAC 7800NLeading consumer tech reviews site CNET Australia has presented the Billion BiPAC 7800N router with a “Best of 2010” award that praises its performance, features and value-for-money.

In its September 2010 review of the BiPAC 7800N, CNET Australia described the router as a solid base for your ADSL2+ network with great wireless throughput. CNET, which said the BiPAC 7800N tested well against all of its three wireless chipsets, praised the “highly featured” device for offering gigabit Ethernet ports, an extra WAN port and the ability to set up Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs).

CNET (www.cnet.com.au) bills itself as Australia's number one dedicated consumer technology news and reviews site (Nielsen Market Intelligence, March 2011). The CNET Australia Best of 2010 award acknowledges excellence among products reviewed by the CNET Australia team during 2010, recognising the "best of the best" products in consumer tech based on a number of criteria including design, function and price.

CNET said competition for these awards was fierce, with the Billion BiPAC 7800N – which now has an RRP of just $209 – deemed the best in its class by the CNET Australia editorial team.

Billion routers are distributed through the national reseller network of Australian specialist broadband technology distributor PCRange

PCRange CEO Raaj Menon said he was delighted that the Billion BiPAC 7800N had received the “Best of 2010” award from CNET. “Our customers obviously agree because the 7800N was our best-selling router ever,” he said.

Billion's IPTV-ready 7700N router hits #1 with a bullet
Monday, 28 March 2011 00:00

Billion BiPAC 7700NThe just-released Billion BiPAC 7700N IPTV-ready router, which delivers Wireless N and ADSL2+ performance for just $89.95, is the fastest-selling router that Billion has ever released in Australia.

With this month’s first air-freighted shipment already sold, Billion’s Australian distributor PCRange reports that its second shipment of BiPAC 7700N routers, due early April, has been already snapped up by its reseller channel. A third shipment in May is already nearly two thirds accounted for!

PCRange CEO Raaj Menon said that sell-out performance represented the strongest sales rate for a new product that his company had seen. “At less than $90, the BiPAC 7700N is our most competitively priced ADSL router that used the popular Broadcom chipset,” he said.

“We expected this to be a hot seller and it has definitely lived up to our expectations.”
