Strong demand for its network expertise has seen Adelaide-based IT specialist Calvert Technologies move to larger offices in Payneham, doubling its floor space and advertising three new jobs, since the start of August.
After cramming 11 existing employees into its previous premises on Port Road, Woodville, Calvert took the plunge of moving into a prominent suite of offices on a prestigious stretch of Payneham Road. The new premises have a floor space of 464 square metres – more than double its previous 200sqm. As well as a dedicated meeting room and technical workshop areas, the new Calvert offices at 298 Payneham Road, Payneham, has enough space for the company’s immediate needs and for the foreseeable future according to founder and managing director Dean Calvert. “The irony is that our business has grown strongly during the past two years, since the Global Financial Crisis began,” said Mr. Calvert.
“Although it was not what we expected at the outset, it turned out that customers sought our services in order to squeeze a bit of extra value and life from their existing computer networks rather than spend a lot of money to replace all of their hardware and software. The result for us was two years of record growth.” With the registered slogan “We'll turn your NOTWORK into a NETWORK”, Calvert Technologies is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, which focuses on providing quality solutions that don’t “break the bank”. Its customers include Urban Virons, Central Australian Aboriginal Congress and Thomson Rossi Architects. Dean Calvert is an internationally recognised expert in providing computer network services based on Microsoft technology to small to medium-sized business organisations. He is frequently invited to address global technology conferences, such as the recent Microsoft Worldwide Partner event in Washington DC, to explain the methodologies he has developed to meet the needs and budgets of small business customers. Dean Calvert said he expected his company’s demand-driven growth to continue into 2011. “The hardest part of growth is finding the right people, both in terms of skills and cultural fit with our company,” he said. “As the moment, we have three vacancies, which are one technical position and two sales roles. The good thing is that once we find the right people, they tend to stay with us for a long time. “We see a lot of great opportunities for growth in 2011. With our new premises, we have the space available for a data centre operation, which already has a couple of clients with equipment hosted there. “But the coming year is about much more than just managing our customers’ equipment: We’re anticipating strong demand for ‘cloud services’ where you buy technology as a managed service rather than as a major capital purchase of hardware and software. “As well as providing peace of mind for customers who’ve struggled for some years to cope with the complexity of modern computer networks, this new way of acquiring technology is much better for your cashflow: You buy what you need when you need it rather than paying for it all at once to meet peak demand.” Mr. Calvert said that trend towards cloud services would accelerate with the imminent launch of a new version of Microsoft Small Business Server. “This will include a version targeting businesses that want to use an external email server solution,” he said. “The ‘traditional’ edition with on-site email hosting will still be available, giving businesses real choice about how they want to work.” Mr. Calvert will attend specialist in-depth Microsoft training for these new versions in the US in late October.
