GFC spells Growth For Calvert in new Payneham digs
Wednesday, 18 August 2010 00:00

Dean Calvert outside his new Payneham officeStrong demand for its network expertise has seen Adelaide-based IT specialist Calvert Technologies move to larger offices in Payneham, doubling its floor space and advertising three new jobs, since the start of August.

After cramming 11 existing employees into its previous premises on Port Road, Woodville, Calvert took the plunge of moving into a prominent suite of offices on a prestigious stretch of Payneham Road.  The new premises have a floor space of 464 square metres – more than double its previous 200sqm.

As well as a dedicated meeting room and technical workshop areas, the new Calvert offices at 298 Payneham Road, Payneham, has enough space for the company’s immediate needs and for the foreseeable future according to founder and managing director Dean Calvert.

“The irony is that our business has grown strongly during the past two years, since the Global Financial Crisis began,” said Mr. Calvert.

Calvert gains pharmacy foothold and grows to 13 staff
Wednesday, 31 March 2010 00:00

Dean Cakvert

Small business technology specialist Calvert Technologies has gained a strategic base in the pharmacy sector and boosted its headcount to 13 after acquiring the operations of Multi Media Interlan.

Calvert Technologies is an Adelaide-based company that specialises in providing IT support and consultancy services to small and medium-sized businesses. The Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, which focuses on providing quality solutions that don’t “break the bank”, is currently experiencing record demand.

Established in 1996 by international Microsoft Small Business Server specialist Dean Calvert, Calvert Technologies has 10 employees, servicing South Australian customers ranging from start-up businesses to enterprises and government agencies. The company has doubled in size during the past four years.

Multi Media Interlan was set up in 2005 to provide computer supply and support services to businesses throughout the greater Adelaide area, from Victor Harbor to Port Wakefield. With many pharmacy customers, the company also services nursing homes, medical practices and retail businesses.

In an amicable, non-financial agreement, Calvert Technologies has hired all the staff of Multi Media Interlan – including its founder Brian Bellchambers – and has assumed responsibility for client service contracts held by the business. Mr. Bellchambers will retain ownership of the company that ran Multi Media Interlan.

Calvert warns “ditch IE” hysteria can lead to grief
Friday, 22 January 2010 00:00

Small business technology specialist Dean Calvert says that international calls to abandon Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser due to security concerns may actually expose computers to greater dangers.

“I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and settle down rather than join the hysteric horde,” said Calvert, the managing director of Adelaide-based network services firm Calvert Technologies.

“The sky is not falling down! Abandoning the Internet Explorer browser because of a high-profile security breach will just invite other, albeit different, security threats. Following some simple procedures can dramatically reduce the risk of viruses and other invasive software getting in your PC.”

Last week, Google's corporate network was hacked due to a vulnerability in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser, which was being used by Google employees. Since then, there has been an international chorus of calls for users to abandon using the Internet Explorer browser.

Calvert predicts ‘keen for green’ rebound in 2010
Friday, 04 December 2009 14:44
Small business technology specialist Dean Calvert predicts that demand for “green tech” services will surge in 2010 despite the demise of the Government’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.

“Businesses are ever more keen for green,” said Mr. Calvert, managing director of Calvert Technologies and a world-leading expert in Microsoft’s Small Business Server software. “As the economy continues to rebound, this means businesses will look to shore up their technology base to enable them to capitalise on growth opportunities, but not at the expense of the environment.

“As it becomes more and more important to present an ecologically responsible approach to business, smaller and more efficient devices will continue to appear at the user end while greater consolidation and virtualisation will occur on the server. This will both cut energy costs and show that the company has not lost its touch with the environment, both to employees as well as the rest of the world.”

Calvert smartens up by adding green to its gold
Friday, 15 May 2009 18:19

Dean Calvert's smart carMicrosoft Gold Certified Partner Calvert Technologies has invested in “greening” its operations by buying a Mercedes smart car to reduce carbon emissions produced by its staff making service calls.

Calvert has purchased the Mercedes smart fourtwo coupe, powered by a new micro hybrid drive (mhd). The $25,000 car is driven by Calvert’s field technicians, who attend client sites to install new equipment and address issues that cannot be resolved remotely

Managing director Dean Calvert said the new car handled very well. “The decision to buy the smart car was driven by a beautiful blend of pragmatism and idealism,” he said.
