Booming business to North Queensland and the NT has driven national logistics company Northline to move its Brisbane depot from Rocklea in the south to Pinkenba, north-west of the CBD.

Northline has already relocated its transport operations to 103 Bancroft Road, Pinkenba, after signing a five-year lease on the 15,845 sq.m. property. The two-year-old facility substantially increases its freight and warehousing capacity in Brisbane, where Northline has had a depot for 20 years.

The Pinkenba property contains a near-new 10,189 square-metre, clear-span building, with loading docks and more than 2000 sq.m. of undercover awning. The enclosed areas of the building are configured as a 500 sq.m. office and more than 6700 sq.m. of warehouse.

Northline is an Australian logistics company that specialises in servicing remote locations throughout the country. The privately-owned business, which employs more than 400 people, provides freight, warehousing and international freight services and undertakes special projects throughout Australia.

Northline Chief Executive Officer Craige Whitton said the new depot positioned the company for another five years of growth as demand boomed from northern Australia. “Darwin is our largest lane out of Brisbane with north Queensland next,” he said.

“We ship general freight, everything from a matchbox to a locomotive. We expect demand to continue growing, so we are placing ourselves in the north of Brisbane to best meet that demand.

“Another benefit of the Pinkenba location is its proximity to the Port of Brisbane and the airport, which assists us with our international freight activities. It also positions Northline well for Queensland-based projects including booming government infrastructure programs.”

Northline’s new Brisbane depot completes its $60-million-dollar overhaul of its national network of distribution centres. The new Brisbane facility follows new depots in Melbourne, Perth, Darwin and Townsville as well as a redevelopment of its Sydney distribution centre.

The major benefit of Northline’s new depot is its modernity, which allows the company to operate a state-of the-art warehousing and transport facility. Northline employs about 50 people at its Brisbane depot, with another 50 subcontractors operating from that location.

Leasing agent Matthew Richards said Scan Industrial had confidentially investigated property options on behalf of Northline. “We found 103 Bancroft Rd which suited Northline’s requirements although they were initially targeting a Southside location,” he said.

“We’ve worked with Northline for five years since sourcing the Rocklea property they are relocating from. Since then, Scan, with a number of other agents, sourced numerous design & construct and existing building options before locating the Pinkenba property for Northline.”
