Craige WhittonNational freight and logistics company Northline has launched a Premium freight service that provides customers in North Queensland with the option of overnight deliveries from Brisbane.

By using innovative logistics technology with a shuttle, Northline can prioritise moving Premium freight shipments through its Queensland network, cutting its standard three-day delivery to just one day.

Northline is an Australian logistics company that specialises in servicing remote locations throughout the country. The privately-owned business, which employs more than 400 people, provides freight, warehousing, international freight services and undertakes special projects throughout Australia.

North Queensland is a major area of activity for Northline, which operates at least 16 B-doubles into the region every week. The launch of the Premium freight service for North Queensland follows Northline’s opening of its new, modern depot in Pinkenba, on the north side of Brisbane.

Northline Chief Executive Officer Craige Whitton said the Premium freight service provided customers in North Queensland with an additional option in their logistics management. “Overnight deliveries allow our customers to manage their inventory better,” he said.

“Instead of having to stock lower-demand products locally, they can premium-freight them overnight.

“The other area from which we have strong demand for this service is from customers in the engineering, mechanical and mine supply sectors. When important equipment breaks, they require replacement components quick smart, which is what our Premium service is designed for.”

The Premium freight shuttle service into North Queensland is in addition to Northline’s general scheduled services. Departing Brisbane from Monday to Friday, the service provides a critical link to Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville, Cairns, Mt Isa and surrounding areas.

As well as an overnight service from Brisbane to Mackay and Townsville, Northline is offering a two-day service from Sydney and a three-day service form Melbourne to Mackay & Townsville. An extra day is required to reach Cairns.

One of the greatest benefits for Northline customers is access to its national and international freight network. With branches in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Alice Springs, Perth and Darwin and depots in major regional centres around Australia, Northline can deliver freight to virtually anywhere in Australia with its own network.

Mr. Whitton said he expected Northline to continue getting strong demand for freight services from northern Australia.  “We ship general freight, everything from a matchbox to a locomotive,” he said.

“We expect demand to continue growing, so we are preparing ourselves in Queensland, with the new Brisbane depot and the Premium service to North Queensland, to meet that demand. It also positions us well for Queensland-based projects including booming government infrastructure programs.”
