Rene PamountNational freight and logistics company Northline has recruited Melbourne-based senior freight executive Rene Pamount to the role of General Manager, Sales, to chart the next phase of its growth.

Mr Pamount joins Northline after more than two decades with another national transport and logistics provider, most recently as Director – Account Management and Customer Service. He joined that firm in 1988 when the entrepreneur-run company was a challenger brand in the express freight market.

Northline is a privately-owned company that specialises in national freight logistics, including long-haul routes to the Top End, North West Australia and Far North Queensland. Employing more than 400 people, Northline provides freight, warehousing and international freight services and undertakes special projects throughout Australia.

Mr Pamount said he had accepted the role with Northline because it was the right time in his career for a change and a fresh challenge. “Northline is a great business,” he said. “As a company, the passion’s there and everyone cares about the customer and wants to provide the best service possible. So the complete focus is on customer service.”

Mr Pamount is leading Northline’s sales and marketing (business development) teams throughout Australia to enhance the company’s reputation as a great freight partner. “Northline already has the jump on some of the bulk carriers because we track deliveries by item in real time rather than by consignment note,” he said.

“Northline’s strength is that we are not a multinational conglomerate. We are big enough to look after you and small enough to care. Compared with other national logistics companies, which are billion-dollar businesses with big bureaucracies, if we need to do something at Northline, I can pick up the phone and call our CEO, Craige Whitton, to get a decision.”

For Mr Pamount, working for Northline brings him full circle to the start of his career in the freight industry. “I started as a sales executive at the age of 25 in the Adelaide market,” he recalled.

“Back then, Northline did our NT deliveries, so I’ve always been aware of the company. Northline has a good feel about it. With the changes in the industry, I think Northline has a chance to be a big player in the bulk pallet business, plus its considerable warehousing and distribution capabilities.

“I’m excited about being involved with Northline and I’m looking forward to the challenge the next few years will bring.”

Northline CEO Craige Whitton said the Melbourne-based General Manager Sales role would further strengthen Northline’s presence on the east coast. “Rene brings a wealth of industry experience,” he said. “He has the skills, the motivation and the passion to further boost our growth in major markets and to exploit our well-established credentials for serving the remotest parts of Australia.”
