National broadband company Internode has welcomed the launch of an iPhone app that lets fetchtv subscribers control the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) set-top box with their phone handset. The fetchtv Remote iPhone app – which can be downloaded for free from Apple’s AppStore – lets fetchtv subscribers identify and record movies and TV shows while they’re away from the house and even use their mobile phone as a remote control when they’re at home. They can also browse fetchtv content, choose movies and set recordings without interrupting what’s being watched on TV. An Android app for fetchtv Remote is scheduled for the first quarter for 2012. Using the app, both subscribers and non-customers can browse fetchtv’s on-demand movie catalogue and watch trailers on their phones. Internode managing director Simon Hackett applauded the launch of the fetchtv Remote app. “It’s a revolutionary change in ease of use for this service,” he said.
“The design of the apps is excellent. They allow you to browse fetchtv’s full electronic program guide and movie catalogue with ease, and to schedule recordings or rent movies right from the app - from anywhere in the world. When you’re at home, the apps also control the fetchtv box, allowing you to change channels and start playing movies – even when the kids have lost the regular remote!”
