Billion unleashes ‘green’ speed demon

April 17, 2006

Networking equipment manufacturer Billion has launched best-of-breed broadband routers that deliver Australia’s fastest broadband speeds and meet Europe’s strict new environmental laws – at no extra cost.

Billion’s Australian distributor PC Range is already delivering the Billion BiPAC 7404 VGP and Billion BiPAC 7404 VGO broadband routers. These cleverly integrated devices deliver ADSL2+ broadband speeds, Voice over IP services and 54 megabit per second wireless networking.

The new Billion units also meet Europe’s rigorous RoHS Directive which restricts the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. From 1 July 2006, RoHS will ban from Europe any new electrical equipment that exceeds set levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.

PC Range managing director Raaj Menon said the company was substituting the four-port 7404 for its previous 7402 models at no extra cost. “The Europeans are setting a new high tide mark in environmental quality with their RoHS Directive requirements,” he said.

"Billion have re-engineered its products to meet these new standards, so PC Range has launched them in Australia at the same price as the superseded model. While we are sure there is no problem with the previous models, Billion is determined to meet the highest global standards in design and manufacturing quality. PC Range is proud to partner with Billion."

Benefits of the Billion BiPAC 7404VGP and 7404VGO

  • The units include four built-in ports compared to three on the previous model

  • These VoIP ADSL2+ routers support VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and standard phone calls, allowing you to benefit from convenient, low-cost phone calls

  • An integrated 802.11g Wireless Access Point in the router offers quick, easy access to wired and wireless networks as well as a shared ADSL2+ broadband link.

RRP for the Billion BiPAC 7404VGP is $299. The Billion BiPAC 7404VGP, which has built-in Virtual Private Network (VPN) support, has an RRP of $385. For technical details of Billion products, visit the Billion Australia website at http://www.billion.com.au/product/voip.php .
