Water Industry Alliance pours praise on Intelligent Software
Intelligent Software Development
June 02, 2008

Adelaide water industry innovator Intelligent Software Development has secured the prestigious Innovation accolade in this year’s Water Industry Alliance awards.

Dubbed Behavioural Business Intelligence, this latest generation of business intelligence technology equips planners and forecasters to gain greater insight into the impact of their strategic decisions.

Judges praised Intelligent Software’s technology, saying it "ultimately will help address the water crisis effectively through better management of water resources and reduced costs".

Intelligent Software’s SimulAlt artificial intelligence technology has been used to analyse complex consumer data and model the effects of water policy changes across an entire community.

In Adelaide, SimulAlt was used to model about 400 different demographic types in more than 500,000 households to examine the effects of urban water trading. Results from this modelling will form part of a report to the National Water Commission.

Intelligent Software Development is run by Drs Don & Michelle Perugini who have worked respectively in the defence sector and biological network research.

Dr. Don Perugini said the Innovation award would help to raise the profile of SimulAlt nationally. “Water management is a national problem that we believe Intelligent Software can play an important role in solving,” he said.

About Intelligent Software Development

Intelligent Software Development Pty Ltd has drawn on expertise from the defence industry to use Artificial Intelligence technologies to create realistic virtual models of cities for strategic planning and forecasting purposes. As with the popular SimCity computer game, Intelligent Software's AI approach models elements of a city, such as households and their demographic characteristics. This simulation can be used to assist with strategic planning and demand forecasting by running "what-if" scenarios and analysing the impact that proposed strategic decisions, infrastructure and policy will have on the population's behaviour, including demand, spending and consumption.
