Billion BiPAC 7402GX APRIL 7, 2008: Billion Australia extends its range of "mobile hotspot" routers this month with the launch of two new firewall routers that support both wired ADSL2+ and wireless 3G broadband connectivity.

One model in the Billion BiPAC 7402X Series of VPN firewall routers also includes support for 802.11g wireless local area networks. Today's release of the BiPAC 7402 X Series follows Billion's launch last year of Australia's first "mobile hotspot", the compact BiPAC 7300GX firewall router which blends ADSL2+ broadband connectivity with 3G network access. The BiPAC 7402 X Series has two models:

  1. The $429 BiPAC 7402GX, available from today, features support for wireless 802.11g, IPSec VPN, a USB Port for 3G connectivity and Auto Failover between connection modes.
  2. BiPAC 7402X ($339), from April 25, supports IPSec VPN, USB Port for 3G and Auto Failover.

Billion's BiPAC 7402X series is equipped with a built-in four-port full-duplex 10/100 switch to allow easy connection of other wired Ethernet devices. This allows you to connect as many as four PCs, or additional hubs or switches, to create a larger network as needed.

The integrated router function and a USB port can share an ADSL2+ broadband or a 3G-based Internet connection, using a 3G USB modem. The routers support automatic fail-over to ensure an always-on Internet connection in the event that one Internet service fails.

Billion's Australian distributor PC Range has successfully tested the BiPAC 7402 X Series 3G support with a range of network providers including Telstra, BigPond, 3, Vodafone, Optus and iBurst.

PC Range has maintained Billion as Australia's most popular broadband router brand for the second year in a row, according to the 2007 Australian Broadband Survey. Conducted by tech-savvy website Whirlpool, the survey reports that Billion routers are used by nearly 24 per cent of about 18,000 respondents. Full details are online at http://whirlpool.net.au/survey/2007/.  Billion broadband routers are sold through a national network that includes Westan, First International, GoldenTek, Infortech, Leader, Hallmark and Harris Technology.

PC Range managing director Raaj Menon said the BiPAC 7402 X Series routers offered the freedom of secure, high-speed Internet connectivity at the home, office or on the road. "With the increasing popularity of the 3G standard, the BiPAC 7402 X Series makes always-on Internet both more convenient and affordable," he said.

"This device lets you download files on the road or access email no matter where you are. You can even share your Internet connection with others, whether you're in a meeting or on a train. When you're in the office, it's a simple matter of plugging into the phone line to use wired ADSL2+ access."
