Case studies

Technology distributor PC Range has launched three Minitar wireless networking devices that comply with the draft IEEE 802.11n wireless standard, which runs much faster than current WiFi technology.

The trio of new products, a wireless broadband router, a wireless PCI card and a wireless USB adapter, comply with current 802.11g and 802.11b WiFI standards as well as the draft 802.11n standard.

Although the 802.11n standard is not expected to be finalised until next year, leading manufacturers such as Minitar are already designing products that deliver the performance benefits of the current draft. The 802.11n standard promises wireless speeds as fast as 300 megabits per second (Mbps) with coverage as far as three times greater than current WiFi networks.

Internode product manager Jim KellettNational broadband company Internode today starts to convert existing phone services to Naked ADSL2+ after demand for its inaugural, new service only "Naked" plan topped 1000 within weeks.

Launched last month, Internode's Naked ADSL2+ plan offers customers a broadband service without costly line rental charges. Over a dial tone-free line, Internode provides its Naked ADSL2+ customers with an ADSL2+ broadband plan, including the NodePhone1 voice-over-broadband phone service.

Internode initially offered Naked ADSL2+ only on new lines. From today, April 14, Internode is taking orders to convert an existing phone service to Naked ADSL2+, significantly widening its potential market.

Internode product manager Jim Kellett said the first month's demand for Naked ADSL2+ services had outstripped expectations. "Our Naked ADSL2+ service is proving extremely popular, with more than 1000 signups since we launched a few weeks ago," he said.

Key points of this announcement

  • Hostworks provides Nutrimetics with 24X7 “critical system” availability and support
  • Nutrimetics now manages more than 80 per cent of its consultants via the website
  • More than half of Nutrimetics orders arrive in the last few days of each month

The Australian arm of global network marketing giant Nutrimetics has chosen Hostworks to enable it to handle the large number of cosmetic product orders it receives in the last few days of each month.

Hostworks is an online demand specialist that provides high availability systems and expert staff to meet the rigorous requirements of running a 24X7 business in the modern world.

Nutrimetics first became a customer after Hostworks' 2003 acquisition of Dimension Data Central, an early entrant into the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) sector. When Hostworks significantly re-engineered this acquired SaaS offering, Nutrimetics extended its engagement from outsourcing its website to having Hostworks manage its Nutrisoft Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

Nutrimetics IT Director Charles Young said Nutrisoft was "an incredibly critical system". "Now that 80-90 per cent of our business is online, every minute of downtime can cost us a lot of money," he said.
