Network device manufacturer Billion has slashed $150 from the retail price of its BIPAC 7800N ADSL2+ router which supports Fibre-to-the-Home services planned for the National Broadband Network (NBN).
Billion, through its Australian master distributor PC Range, has reduced the recommended retail price of the BIPAC 7800N from $449 to just $299. As well as ADSL2+ support, the BiPAC 7800N has an Ethernet WAN (E-WAN) port, an extra port that links to an external cable or fibre modem, providing Fibre-to-the-Home access as it becomes available. Fibre-to-the-Home services can run as fast as 100 megabits per second. Even before the Federal Government’s planned NBN, FTTH services are starting to appear in new housing estates around Australia, where fibre is laid to each house as part of the real estate development.
Fibre-to-the-Home broadband allows you to enjoy high-bandwidth applications such as High Definition Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services without changing your home network. For local area networks in the home, the Billion BiPAC 7800N provides support for Wireless N networking as well as a built-in four-port gigabit switch, which makes it the ideal device for a home with multiple computers and high bandwidth requirements. Support for the draft 802.11n protocol allows the Billion BiPAC 7800N’s built-in Wireless Access Point to offer wireless speeds as fast as 300 megabits per second. Via three integrated antennas, the unit automatically adopts the best connection to deliver smooth, constant signal reception, even when obstacles are present. The Billion BiPAC 7800N also includes a robust firewall to protect against hacker attacks while a Quality of Service capability optimises data flows for applications such as music downloads, online gaming, video streaming and file sharing. It also supports IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) delivery.
