Scott TidemannGlobal mapping guru Petrosys will raise its profile in one of the most oil-rich regions of the world after appointing Fugro-Jason as a business partner for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Fugro-Jason is the leader in reservoir characterization technology in the petroleum Exploration & Production (E&P) sector. Fugro-Jason is part of the Geoscience Division of Fugro, which has about 12,000 employees with a permanent presence in some 54 countries.

Petrosys, which promotes its software with the tagline "the Mapping Guru", is an international leader in providing software systems to the global petroleum E&P industry.

Established in 1991, the CIS is a coalition of former Soviet republics that includes Azerbaijan; Armenia; Belarus; Georgia; Kazakhstan; Kyrgyzstan; Moldova; Russia; Tajikistan; Turkmenistan; Uzbekistan; and Ukraine. The CIS is regarded as the most important and fastest-growing oil-producing region outside OPEC. Although much of the former Soviet space remains under-explored, many believe its role in world oil production is potentially even greater than current reserve estimates suggest.

Driven by the record high price of oil, the CIS is increasingly a focus for oil and gas exploration. For E&P companies in the CIS, the ability to create high quality maps from diverse geoscience data sources is critical to identifying and exploiting energy reserves in the region. With its head office in Moscow, Fugro-Jason CIS employs more than 50 people in its regional operation, providing a local pool of talented resources dedicated to meet the needs of this market.

Fugro-Jason CIS Director Vadim Khromov states that Petrosys is a versatile, easy to use and innovative mapping and surface modelling tool in the E&P workflow. "Fugro-Jason has actively used Petrosys in geoscience projects for clients in the CIS for more than four years now," he said.

"We have developed a practical and detailed knowledge of the application in consulting work for clients on regional projects. It simply provides a very effective and efficient way to map, grid, contour and integrate data from a wide range of data sources.

"With this tool, we have the ability to effectively create maps using Russian character sets, which is vital to effective communication. Through our partnership with Petrosys, we can add another world-class software tool to the range of products and services we deliver to customers in the CIS."

Petrosys Global Sales and Marketing Manager Scott Tidemann said the Fugro-Jason partnership would help Petrosys to expand sales and customer support capabilities in this important region. "Partnering with Fugro-Jason creates a great opportunity for Petrosys in the CIS," he said.

"Fugro-Jason has a long-standing reputation as a leader in the delivery of projects, services and reservoir characterization technology for the oil and gas industry. This relationship will allow Petrosys to continue delivering readily accessible support and expertise to help our customers meet their business objectives."
