Broadband industry leader Billion today launches two new Broadcom chipset-based routers that pack a powerful set of features, including dual-band wireless, Gigabit, VoIP and NAS storage, into one unit.
Building on the success of Billion’s best-selling 7800N model, the Billion BiPAC 7800 VDOX and 7800 VDPX routers additionally contain a fibre-ready Wide Area Network (WAN) port, concurrent dual-band Wireless N networking and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) capabilities. Backed by a three-year warranty and due to ship in August, the Billion BiPAC 7800 VDOX has an RRP of $249 while the 7800 VDPX costs just $229.
As well as being IPv6-capable, the BiPAC 7800 VDOX and 7800 VDPX both support dual-WAN (Wide Area Network) connectivity through an ADSL2+ port and a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port, which make them NBN-ready. Internally, the routers support Gigabit LAN (Local Area Network) and 300Mbps (megabits per second) Wireless N, with concurrent dual-band coverage on the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies.
Telephony functions include VoIP telephone call support, least cost routing capabilities and automatic failover from VoIP to a PSTN phone line if the power or broadband drops out. Another benefit of the new 7800 V series routers is easy access to the user-set Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) feature, which reduces the signal to noise ratio on the communications link between the router and the telephone exchange, providing the highest possible sync speed whilst maintaining stability of the ADSL2+ link.
Both the Billion BiPAC 7800 VDOX and 7800 VDPX also contain strong support for rich media content with preset IPTV and VoIP profiles; a USB port for Network-Attached Storage (NAS) and an integrated print server and DLNA media services. Both devices can be configured to allow guest access to their wireless networks, providing convenient and low-risk network Internet sharing in a busy family home.
The Billion BiPAC 7800 VDOX also contains enterprise-grade security with support for secured IPSec Virtual Private Networks using powerful DES/3DES/AES encryption.
PCRange CEO Raaj Menon said both the new Billion routers were ready for the National Broadband Network. “In pre-release field tests, we recorded LAN-to-WAN throughput tests as fast as 400 megabits per second while the new routers comfortably recorded downstream speeds of 100Mbps from the NBN,” he said.
“What makes these routers amazing is not just their performance, but their great set of features, including concurrent dual-band wireless, Gigabit, VoiP, NAS storage - all in one affordable unit!
“These devices are about much more than just fast Internet access. They provide a digital nerve centre in the connected home, providing secure wireless network coverage; central storage of rich media content; easy distribution throughout the home of streamed video and audio content; and all the low-cost convenience of access to VoIP telephony.
“We expect huge demand from customers wanting to upgrade from older generation equipment.”
